Packaging Design and Printing Guidelines

The design and printing of your VHS, DVD, or CD’s packaging is an integral part of creating a professional multimedia piece. At RBR Productions, we provide several standard printing and packaging design options for any DVD, CD-ROM, or audio or video cassette we help create or reproduce.

Our Chicago studio is capable of four-color printing for the following packaging designs:
• single or multiple page inserts
• disc and cassette labels
• disc sleeves
• traycards for jewel cases
• CD wallets

Steps for a Successful Packaging Design

In order for our Chicago production studio to process your project’s packaging design, it is essential that the following steps be followed. If you have any questions at any time, please contact us.

• Scan all pictures larger than needed and at 300dpi (dots per inch) to preserve the image’s quality for printing.
All images used in the packaging design must be at least 300dpi or higher.
• All vector
• Create Outlines for fonts used in your packaging design if using Adobe Illustrator otherwise fonts must be included when submitted.
• Check your packaging design’s size against the template provided below
• Include hard copies of your packaging design with the electronic files
• Our Designers are proficeint in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign. Please contact us to verify that we can accept software other than those before beginning your project.

Certain files will not work for
your packaging design

To keep your DVD, CD, or video or audio cassette packaging design from looking grainy and of poor quality, certain file formats will not be accepted.

Graphics or a logo cannot be taken off your website and used for your packaging design. Web graphics are normally 72dpi and in .jpeg or .gif format. This is because computer monitors cannot display image resolution higher than 72dpi, and having a higher resolution in an image for a website just creates longer load times. JPEG and GIF image file formats are also used to shorten load times on websites.

For printing, we will need all image files to have a resolution of 300dpi or higher. Acceptable image file formats include:

• .PSD (Adobe Photoshop Document)
• .EPS
• .AI (Adobe Illustrator Document)
• .PNG
• .TIFF
